You have probably heard a lot about drones recently, but what are they really?
Drones are, technically speaking, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. Basically, we are talking about aircrafts of all shapes and sizes that can be controlled by remote control. In most cases, this is within the realm of the military, although there is a steadily growing part of the public that is using them for their own purposes.
For the military, these aerial vehicles come in the form of weapons that can be used in areas without exposing personnel to the dangers of the battlefield. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this, but the fact remains that it is a very effective way of saving lives on the American side.
For the rest of the public, drones are ways of doing a lot of things. Amazon, for example, has been researching the idea that they may begin using drones to deliver packages to customers within a couple of hours of purchasing. Depending on what they are being used for, they can be anywhere from the size of a remote control helicopter to the size of a full Air Force plane.
At the end of the day, if you have ever used a remote control airplane, you can understand the general idea. These are the same things that children have been using for years, although it is on a much larger and more technically complex scale.
